High blood pressure…?

OK, so I was at this place with my parents where they measured your blood pressure, with the little chart thing to guide you along (Btw, I know hardly anything about this stuff. just to inform you). I measured mine, and it said that my systolic was around 150. and on the chart, that says that it’s high.. I’m 15, and is that completely wrong or am I going to die or something? I know, I overreact.. but I got kinda freaked out.

A systained systolic blood pressure (BP) of 150 for the age of 15 is a little on the higher side. Please donot get worried and check your BP once or twice again with a standard mercury mamometer and get yourself investigated for the cause by your doctor.
If no cause can be ascertained it may be treated as primary hypertension with sutiable medicines.

No. NHS patients are being encouraged to be more involved in the care they need.

I live in the UK and work in the NHS (our universal health care system). It has problems, but not as many as the US healthcare system has. Despite spending much more per head of population than other developed countries, the US has worse health outcomes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care#Economics Life expectancy and infant mortality figures in the US are worse than in other developed countries, despite more money being spent (and wasted) in the USA.

In the UK there are waiting lists for routine problems. Problems that can not wait are treated as emergencies. Also, in the UK, people can also have private health care. If you have suspected cancer for example, you are see within two weeks, or if appropriate, the same day.

I can understand Americans being proud of living in the richest and most powerful country in the world. What I can not understand is why Amercians settle for a more expensive healthcare system where babies die that would have a better chance of life if born in another developed country.

about my blood pressure and stress?

2 yrs ago I was under alot of stress. Bad marriage. Kid problems, mother problems, etc. My blood pressure went through the ceiling. I was put on blood pressure medicine. And I got rid of all the stress. Well, since then I’ve also lost my health ins. I was wondering since I no longer have the stress in my world and my life style has changed, if I really even need the medicine now. I mean the Dr. I had was soaking up the ins. The Dr. I have now is soaking up the cash money. I did stop the medicine for 1 week and my pressure increased to 140/90. That don’t seem to high to me. However, I sure did not feel good. So I paid up again and went back on it. Your thoughts please.

Listen to me or “READ” rather, do not and I stress do not just stop taking that medication. In some cases just cutting out the medication can cause cardic arrest in some people. Now it is possible for a person to have HTN with out being a smoker, or drinker, stress head and so forth. You can get it from your family ,grandparents, mom, dad, so forth. So some things are out of your control, 140/90 is not to high but by AHA that is stage 1 HTN and dose need to be managed. But DO not just stop taking that medication.
