Due to my heart condition I am monitoring my pulse rate constantly for more than 4 years now. During these 4 years I’ve change about six or maybe 7 of them. All changes because of malfunctioning. These gadgets are not really durable nowadays. The cheapest one was for $20 (thou that one was showing only pulse, nothing else), and ironically that one lasted for more than a year. All others from 5 days to couple of month.
So my advice – don’t go for those fancy and buy the cheapest one.

My back was killing me when I woke up yesterday so I took a Skelaxin (Muscle Relaxer). A few hours later, I had 4-5 beers while watching football. The next thing I know, my face is burning up, beat red. My pulse was racing at 130 bpm and I had a terrible headache. I slept for a few hours and took some aleve, and it gradually went away. There is much that is not known about skelaxin such as how exactly it works. It sounds like you may have had a hypersenitivity reaction made worse by the alcohol. It is well known that combining the two will increase dizziness and drowsiness, however, alcohol causes flushing of the skin by dilating the blood vessels and maybe the combination made that worse. Alcohol can also cause atrial fibrillation which is a fast irregular heartbeat.

I think you are actually asking two questions:
1) Is your blood pressure normal? Yes it is. It is within the normal range. Assuming you do not have symptoms, that is where you want it to be.
2) Is your pulse normal? A normal pulse is usually between 60 and 100 beats per minute. A higher pulse can be caused by all sorts of reasons. If you are measuring your pulse correctly and not doing any special activity, and your heart rate is always that high I would suggest that you have that looked in to. An increased pulse over time is not healthy.

Place the cuff in the correct place (above the crease on the inner arm). Pump up until the guage reaches anywhere from 150-180. Slowly release the pressure and listen. The first number is the systolic (first number) and the second is the diastolic(sp?). Good luck.
