I quit smoking 1year 8 months ago, changed my diet and started jogging, I feel great! I take fish oil, vitaminE&C, calcium supplements , ginko biloba, and Ginseng.I last saw my doctor 1/06 and he prescribed me dynacir 5 mg I stopped taking them in March and have been feeling great! I have a blood pressure monitor and I check it regularly and it’s fine! Do you think smoking contributed to my high blood pressure? I’ve never had a problem with my blood pressure until I started smoking!

I just took 4 measurements with an automated ReliOn blood pressure monitor. Each was back to back over the period of about 5 minutes. I tried to stay reasonably still for each measurement. This is what I got:
143/81 pulse 79
136/91 pulse 79
142/92 pulse 76
146/89 pulse 67
Are these variations typical, or is it possible that I’m not taking the measurements correctly, or the machine is not working properly?

I am a doctor and have traditionally worked with BP instruments that measure BP from arm and not from wrist. If anyone has worked on these new wrist based BP monitors, then please tell me if they are accurate and reliable or not. If yes, what principle do they use for measurement?
The funda for measuring it is not in-line with heart but the arm is supposed to be at the level of the heart.
SO the person who does high maths can take a jump. Pressure, mind you, varies with height 
I wanted to know if Karatkoff’s principle is applicable on wrist Sphygs or not coz i am not sure if it does obliterate radial artery completely and even if it does, ulnar artery will rush in more blood because it is un-obliterable.

First of all, I just went through an EKG, Echocardiagram, and a Stress test about a little over a month ago. I had to wear a heart monitor for a month also to see if they could catch any rhythm issues that might cause me to have a rapid heartrate at times. I just got those results a little over a week ago. I was told that all of the tests above came back great, and that I had a strong healthy heart. I was also told that I didn’t have any problems with the rhythm of my heart, but that I had something called sinus tachycardia where my rhythm is normal but my just beats a little faster than normal. My heart doctor said it was not life threatening or anything. Anyway, I bought a new blood pressure monitor yesterday.. one of those Omron ones that also detects irregular heartbeats. I took a few measurements yesterday and a few today. It detected irregular heartbeat only once for those readings. I am wondering if sinus tachycardia.. could cause this monitor to register irregular heartbeat? thanks

I am using HICKS portable digital blood pressure monitor.
It has power input rating 6 V. I mistakenly put an adapter pin of 12 V, and I see a smoke coming out off it and it turned off. When I check the circuit, I found that some diode like or fuse like structure about 10 mm^2 area which is rectangular in shape has burned. I think it is a fuse and I join the two track which was it is connected with the help of a wire, I doesn’t turn on and it starts to become hot.
The monitor also gives the information of the Systolic – Diastolic pressure, BP – 102 and Pulse rate.
Please tell me that which is the part which has burned so I can replace it.

I bought a manual inflate arm cuff blood pressure monitor that gives out a digital reading. The pharmacist recommended it over the auto inflate b/c it was half the price and he said that would be the only difference. The reason i purchased one is b/c i’m pregnant and my BP has been in the 140’s over 80’s at my docs office lately. When i take my BP at home with this monitor, it’s been in the 120’s over 70’s.
