Electrical-Shock Type pain in feet. Any input please?
My father has somewhat of a medical mystery going on. Horrible, stabbing pain in both feet, worse in left foot, radiates a bit up leg. He’s seen his general physician, chiropractor, foot doctor; spine doctor. X-rays show bulging disc in his back and some nerve damage in the feet, but I’m not so sure the conditions are related. He cannot bear weight on his left foot. No one is giving any real answers as far as cause/treatment for the nerve damage. They keep pointing to the back/disc. This has been going on for 3 months. Had an epidural; only provided some relief. Meds like Lyrica also not much relief; prefer not to rely on meds if they’re only treating the symptom anyway. He’s an otherwise healthy, active, trim 70ish man, no diabetes. Thanks much for any input/ideas!
Talk to a spinal surgeon about a spinal fusion or some other sort of surgical intervention. Since he has not responded positively to any medicines (oral or injected) he’s probably past the point of them being of any assistance. Physical/physiotherapy would also be a good option, but considering his age, it might be too little too late. The treatments and exercises they put him through aren’t likely to cause significant relief for months, and it’s a lot of commitment, even for a younger person.
As far as the nerve damage in the foot (i’m assuming you found this out because he had an EMG), there isn’t a whole lot they can do to fix that. A lot of the time, correcting the issue in the back will help alleviate most of the pain, at least to make it tolerable for him.
Also, while this seems like the worst thing ever for him, remember to keep a cool head about the whole situation. Spine and nerve issues are very complicated and it can take a while before all of the options for healing your father have been exhausted. I’ve known people who deal with the same problem for 2 years before they finally find something that works. Hopefully it doesn’t take that long for your father though. good luck.

These concerns influence therapeutic decisions in a manner that sometimes emphasizes avoidance of possible dysglycemia over effective control of the co-morbid conditions. The same concerns may also weigh against the otherwise appropriate use of necessary medications. The purpose of this concise book is to provide clinicians with actionable knowledge regarding the effects of various medications on glucose regulation and diabetes risk. Beginning with a brief overview of diabetes pathophysiology, the different drugs have been organized by class, and the scientific evidence for the diabetes risk and possible mechanisms have been presented for each drug. Does METHADONE show up as an OPIATE in a 6-PANEL urine screening?
My cousin gets random urine screenings. She takes a RediCup brand 6-panel drug screen. This particular one tests for the following:
-Amphetamines/(AMP)
-Benzodiazepines /(BZO)
-Cocaine/(COC)
-Methamphetamine/(MAMP)
-Opiates/(OPI)
-Marijuana/(THC)
I know that methadone is a synthetic opiate, but I’m not sure if that means it will show up in a urine screen as an opiate (or OPI). Also, there is a 10-panel RediCup screen that tests for the six drugs listed above and the following:
-Barbiturates/(BAR)
-Phencylidine/(PCP)
-Antidepressants/(TCA)
-Methadone/(MTD)
My question is, if she takes the 6-panel, will the methadone she took show up as OPI, or does the screen have to be a 10-panel and display the methadone as MTD?
Also, how long does it take for methadone to leave your system?
Yes it will show up as an opiate initially. Then they would send it in for a confirmation test and it would show up as methadone the second time.
It takes about 3 days to leave a person’s system for single use. I don’t know how long for chronic use.
