I have an 8-month-old cousin who was hospitalized last night. They found out today that she has a skull fracture on the right side of her head, right behind her temple. 8-month olds don’t just fracture their skulls. It is standard practice, that unless the parent has a darn-convincing reason (ie, car wreck) as to why the child has a skull fracture, social services be called in. No responsible parent would EVER allow their baby to break their head!

What camera setting should I use for low light / motion shots with a baby?
I find using a flash is too harsh when shooting pictures of our infant daughter inside. I have a digital SLR (Canon EOS) — should I use Av or Tv — and what aprature or speed should I try to use?
You can get a good picture in program mode by bouncing your flash off of a ceiling or wall. Your camera will choose the best aperture and shutter speed, and it will also adjust the amout of light that your flash will produce. To do this, you need a flash that has an adjustable head and that will sync to your camera. The canon speedlight ex series works well and are well worth the money spent. If the ceiling is too high to get a proper exposure, attach a white 3×5 card to the back of your flash to help bounce some of the light.
Personally, I only use my on-camera flash outside as a fill light to help get rid of shadows caused by harsh sunlight. When I’m inside, I never use a direct flash, I always find someway to bounce the light to acheive a softer and more even lighting.
