I have had a lot going on recently, and my blood pressure is showing it!(Last read was 160/90! Eeeesh!)A wedding,(mine)a fundraiser for our local Children's Hospital,an up-coming son's graduation and ultimate departure for USMC… Also some on-going health issues to deal with in the mix! I have cut my smoking in half, and switched to drinking caffiene-free soda. Also use Morton's Lite Salt. What else should I do? I'm taking hydrochlorothyazide 25mg. (Doc called it a water pill?) I HATE taking pills! Any natural suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Stop drinking carbonated or sweet drinks they are loaded with sodium. Try taking some things off your plate to reduce the stress your experiencing. Won't be much fun getting married when your dead. Re evaluate your priorities, nothing on the face of this planet should mean so much as your health save Christ Himself.

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and today started off well. I had been really energetic and happy all week, but this morning as I starting getting ready for work I felt like a ton of bricks had hit me. My chest felt heavy, I felt short of breath, my heart started racing and my ears popped and then started ringing. I felt like I was going to either pass out of throw up and the only thing I could do to alleviate the dizziness was to lay down on my bed.

I went to the Dr. who check me for swelling everything looked find except there was a trace of protein in my urine and I had slightly high blood pressure. He didn't seemed alarmed just curious and sent me down to get some more blood work and to get a urine sample again. I'm assuming this is the 24 hour test for Preeclampsia. He didn't really say. He just told me to go home and relax.

I left still feeling weird. I just didn't feel myself. I still felt dizzy and disoriented. My neck and shoulders were stiff and every once in a while I would get this overwhelming wave of anxiety and nausea.

I did a lot of reading on Protein in urine because the Dr. didn't really specify what this meant. I understand that it can happen sometimes and not be a big deal. I also read that it could be signs of kidney damage or Preeclampsia. Now my question is: Having both signs of protein in my urine and having high blood pressure, is that an automatic sign of Preeclampsia or could the symptoms be completely unrelated?

Trace protein in urine is normal during pregnancy. The diagnosis for preeclampsia is a 24 hour urine with the urine protein over 350 (which would be 3+ on a spot urine dip). The 24 hour test for urine is something that you will collect over a 24 hour period and return to the office. Sounds more like something else is going on with you that was causing elevated blood pressure. It could be possible you are developing it but that is something they will have to watch. Just calm down and take some deep breaths. It is a fairly common complication and can be managed well if you have prenatal care.

i'm taking a high blood pressure med for anxiety to help reduce the physical symptoms such as a pounding, racing heart.

The doctor told me to take half a tablet (20MG) twice a day.

I've already taken both halves, and my heart feels like its going to explode. I really want to take another full tablet.

Is that ok?

All the beta blockers cause asthma attacks and diabetes.

Why do people get hypertension and what is it.Also what is coronary artery disease ?

Artery is a plaque build-up in the arteries, causing the arteries to be less flexible and smaller inside than they would normally be. The arteries that bring blood back and forth to the heart have smaller openings in them than they normally would. When that happens, there is more pressure from the blood flowing through the arteries, so you can get high blood pressure from this. You can also get high blood pressure if your arteries are constricted from any other reason. Think of how water would flow through a hose. If you had a large hose with a large diameter, the water would flow gradually from the hose. If you put the same amount of water through a hose that is a lot smaller in diameter, the water would be under more pressure (you would see it spurting out faster and harder). Arteries that are larger in diameter make for lower blood pressure than arteries that have a smaller opening. If the doctor says it is O.K. try taking a multi-vitamin with high B vitamins in it, and then also eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables along with something in your diet that gives you some calcium. Ask your doctor what he thinks about it.
